I just learned today how to post an audio blog. I read a quote from an article I have on UDL. It is so easy! It's all part of my quest for how technology can give us tools for using UDL for teaching and learning. What do you think?
I think it is fantastic! For the student that has difficulty expressing ideas in writing, this is a perfect vehicle to still have a voice!
Sarah, can you please explain to us how you created your audio clip?
I thought it was terrific too. The presenter talked about how this is a great home/school connection too because students can go home and play they audio blog for their parents. I suppose this is blogcasting rather than podcasting. It's a more direct post to the web, but not portable to the mp3player.
You go to http://audioblog.com which is the same company as blogger.com. At audioblog.com you set up an account. Use the same user name and then it links the audioblogs with which ever blog you want to post the audio blog. I have a few blogs so I was able to select from a dropdown menu which one I wanted to post the audio clip on. When it asks for a primary phone number you can make up a number but remember what it is. (All to guard privacy!) Then you use your phone to call the number on the screen and it prompts you through the recording process, which is very much like leaving any message. You have the chance to review, delete, re-record, or post. The directions are on the screen too. It literally took five minutes.
I followed the advise of the presenter today, and read something. She suggested making a PowerPoint to read because it helps her with pacing and breathing. I suppose you could also post the PowerPoint and then you have the info on the blog two ways. What a find and so fun!
Another application mentioned was connecting with distant relatives. Grandma and grandchild can read to each other this way. Of course phone is involved and they could call each other, but just as writing on the blog is publishing, so is posting an audio clip, so the reading seemed to be the most obvious application in our discussion today.
